Elite Women

So, now that the election is over, I can pay attention to tennis again. (And keep my sidebars updated in a much more timely fashion!)

But I need to be briefed first. Who's injured? Who's exhausted? Who's playing well? Who do you expect to win the Season Ending Championships?

I see the sisters go at it later today, so I'll be watching that one for sure.

Hey Craig, guess what JJ is still taking medical timeouts during matches, then runs around and wins matches. Sveta is still losing. Venus is still having meltdowns in the middle of matches, Elena still can hardly find her serve, AnaI is still being weighted down by expectations but she is dating Fernando, Serena is on a mission and really does not like JJ - Dinara is now showing why she was ranked all the way down in the rankings for most of her career as she is again self imploding. As to the men, Rafa is injured. Fed is playing, Novak is still playing, Simon qualifed for Masters Cup. The most important thing though is this: I went on vacation and fell in love with an old love, which puts tennis way out of my mind. LOL And how are you doing?

I'm still up in the clouds.

Thanks for the great update on the state of tennis.

Enjoy your new old love!

(This Serena/Venus match is a mess!)

Craig, give them some time. It is going to get better. Serena needs to win this match to get to the semis. Notice that Oracene is not in the audience today and the commentators have pointed out that both camps are sitting separately. Game on.

That was a comprehensive clinic on how to play tennis given by Venus Williams to Serena Williams. That was just awesome tennis in the last 2 sets. Great match.

@Karen,

I have never played Tennis and watch it casually...

merely looking at the spin on the arms of Venus, and the construction of shots by Serena, I see your point. Spot on!

These 2 ladies are class apart in this game. What a game! nuff said.

@Craig,

So how does this Round Robin work? Is Serena out ? Apologies if I am n00blike :)

dax, the last time I saw Venus play that well was when she played Serena at Wimbledon this year. Just amazing focus, especially on the big points. Really good match. The scoreline for the last 2 sets was really amazing. Serena did not hold serve once during the final 2 sets and this is from the best server on tour right now.

Venus played well, but she also had help from Serena, so let's not exaggerate...

Tomorrow Serena vs Elena for the last SF spot. Winner of that match will play loser of Jankovic-Zvonareva.

Safina is overrated. Not at all surprised that she lost all matches. In fact she has never beaten Venus, Serena or Elena on outdoor hard courts (0-7 now)...

Serena double faulted on more break points against her today than she has in her entire career.

She won't beat Dementieva if she can't even outserve her.

Craig, somehow I think this humiliating loss to Venus will spur Serena on to take Elena tomorrow. There is not a lot of love lost there so I think Serena will do better tomorrow and move on to the semis
