Quote For The Day

"I'm small so I can’t do some of the things taller players do. I have to play tennis like a chess game. It’s like in life, I have to think through a problem to find a solution."--Christophe Rochus, after upsetting Sam Querrey with all " those cocky, arrogant backhand drop shots" in Delray Beach.

Sam Q. said "cocky arrogant drop shots?" Ha! If you can't make them rethink trying to drop shot you - then you deserve them I guess. I don't care for either one, but you put into effect whatever strategy that will work for you. If Sam is that slow ... good for Rochus.

"He played well, he comes up with good shots," Querrey said. "He comes to the net. He has those cocky, arrogant backhand drop shots, it's annoying."

It's easy to miss Sam's dry sense of humor. He's definitely not one to put down other players, that would be Mardy Fish (unfortunately).

Wow. If I had known Sam's remarks would be the focus, I'd have left them out.

For me, Rochus' quote demonstrates exactly why I love tennis.

It's like life.

Thanks for the clarification Tangerine. I didn't see the quote, which is why I asked. Sam's humor is kind of like Andy Murray's - very dry. Still though ... good for Rochus I suppose.

True Craig. That's why I loved watching Coria, when he wasn't hampered by shoulder injuries - he found a way to win, and not just on clay.

hehe...that was a nice line from Christophe...

he and his brother have TALENT Bigger than they are as small as they are cute...hehe.

and apparently the talent is not only in playing tennis...but with words too.....

one begins to wonder about their talent in the hay..as the saying supposedly goes...:

"it's not the size, it's how you use it".

fits them perfectly!!

remember how BIG TALENTED marat Safin says he REALLY is afraid of Olivier?.......it's because of how Rochus "climbs" all over the giant.....

that remark by Sam Querrey is really "jock talk" ...in praise of his opponent.

it's like sampras ..if he uses the term "ANIMAL"....as with Rafa: "what can anyone say else? he's an ANIMAL".

that's really a big compliment...

"he's Baaaaad"....
"he's meeeaan"....
"he RULES".....

something like that.

same with Querrey about Rochus' "cocky , arrogant drop shots".

I shutter to think how those quotes would have been received had they been uttered, with exactly the same delivery and intent, from someone else that just gets lambasted on this site.

Querry is a bit of an odd bird - there's a promotional on tennis channel of him saying he thinks it'd be interesting to have tennis balls explode at random intervals during the match.

There's also another line from him on Murphy's Guide saying that he enjoyed having the chance to shop the flea market in Beijing for things like bags and purses...and then he quickly corrects himself to say, "Well, I don't really shop for purses, but...other stuff."
