Quote For The Day

"Billie Jean King is one of my role models; I think she is a great role model. She is my idol. She transcended tennis and was a role model for women's sports in general and that's what I would like to do and ultimately what I would like my career to be like.

"I think growing up I always watched tennis in Madison Square Garden — the WTA Championships event — as long as I can remember. And I never really thought I would have a chance to play there then and now here I am. I also think this is a great event and I think women’s tennis is the mecca of female sports. Having myself and Venus and Ana and Jelena at Madison Square Garden just shows how amazing tennis is and I’m excited to play in front of these New Yorkers,"--Serena Williams on her Madison Square Garden debut.

Look for Savannah's report on the live action in the coming days.

I was trying to post that Venus just beat Flavia like she stole something. My goodness who is this person moving on clay like she was born to the stuff - and on red clay at that. Who knew?

Venus has always played well on clay.

Until she gets to Paris.

well it is funny that in her talk with ESPN she mentioned that she was glad she came there because she learnt a lot of things playing this tournament, like patience, which I think was one of her biggest stumbling blocks to playing on clay. She was going for too much. I also sense a certain amount of calm about Venus' game these days. It is like she has all day to be out there playing tennis. In absolutely no hurry to serve, to hit the ball, to do nothing. Just going along doing her thing.

Venus even made some baby slides during her match against Flavia. I have nothing against Flavia but it was great seeing Venus play a clay court game on clay.
