Quote For The Day

"He has developed a chip that gets him out of trouble a lot that no one ever really talks about. They talk about the running and heaviness, but he volleys well. He's able to play returns, as evidenced by Wimbledon last year. They talk about how he stands back, but he's able to mix it up. I don't really think he gets credit for how complete of a tennis player he is.

"I think he kind of gets pigeon holed into what people remember from five years ago. The thing about Rafa's game, and the type of ball he hits coming from the left side is that, maybe more so than other players, he's able to kind of say, 'This is what I do. You're going to have to deal with it.' But that being said, the guy knows what he's doing on a tennis court. He knows his way around."--Andy Roddick

I also remember another instance of ANDY coming to the defense of another player that was being vilified:

Serena Williams and Venus when media were suggesting they were not doing enough FOR tennis:

i recall andy saying something like:

"Venus and Serena have done for women's tennis what few could dream of.."

Andy Roddick was also - several years ago in rome during the Rome Masters - the LAST PLAYER to leave a BURNING hotel ..to ensure that the greg rusedski and his then-pregnant wife had safely slid down a tarpaulin from their hotel balcony down to the street...

this is one reason I am an admirer of andy roddick.

in keeping with his life's own realities -- he has HIS HEART and MIND in the RIGHT places.

the guy is a MAN!

also, now that andy has given props to Nadal -- ANDY needs to FOCUS ON HIMSELF and his "chips" and volleyes...and returns..and keep improving his movement hehe.

he has a game that can beat rafa, i am SURE of that.

He may act like a bit of a punk on the court when things don't go his way (although I personally find his vocal outbursts to be generally pretty entertaining)... but off the court he calls it the way it is. Respect.

What a great personality on the tour! Outside the court he is soo different then on it..

You really think that Andy has game to beat Rafa over 5 sets in a slam? I don't, not even the new and improved version. He's just outclassed in every facet of the game except for first serve.

I'm not sure about Five sets, SIC.

it's reasonable to assume that andy roddick won't be beating rafa that way - if both were in tip top shape physically.

but I think that Andy has the game to beat rafa in straights. it's the kind where andy can't make too many mistakes and try to win it quickly.

andy is a pretty good "quick runner" when his serves are on -- and if he keeps his improvements on returns and other aspects that is a plus.

so why not?. maybe it won't be too often because andy would have to have a lot of consistency to do it and not break down on his serve at any point.

i mean - NO ONE is completely INvulnerable.
