The 2008 Roma final will be re-contested first, followed by the 2009 Indian Wells final.

Hey Stan, don't take your foot off the pedal now, buddy. You have an opportunity to beat three top 5 players at the same event. Make the very best of it.

If Stan keeps pummeling the ball around and holds himself together, Djoke is going to lose his breathing.

Craig Hickman said...

Stan plays break points against his opponent's serve hideously.

Craig Hickman said...

Djoke double faults to drop serve.

Craig Hickman said...

Stan holds at 15 to take the first set in 55 minutes.

Craig Hickman said...

Stan just threw Djoke a life jacket by playing a lose game and dropping serve.

Craig Hickman said...

Guess everybody was out late last night.

Savannah said...

Craig Hickman said...

Stan wakes up and earns the early break in the decider. Can he maintain?

Helen W said...

Everyone was out late -- or lives on the west coast :)

Helen W said...

Maybe I shoulda stayed in bed :(

Craig Hickman said...

Who you rooting for, Helen W?

Craig Hickman said...

Stan just blew a game point to go up 3-0. That last point was coast to coast for both players.

Morning All, I am trying to get into this match, but unfortunately neither of the players' game does anything for me - either that or I am still hung over from last night - watching 5 ingriedients on Food Network which is as boring as the tennis match being played. What is wrong with Stan the Man. Phewt - Is Novak the most unfit player on tour. The fellow is gasping for breath like I do when I am playing - my excuse I am a bit round - what is his excuse. The commentators said that what Stan needs to do is run Novak ragged and exhaust him - sounds like a plan

Helen W said...

Hey Craig, kinda pully for Stan. But he makes it hard with the way he plays the tough points.

Craig Hickman said...

He really is cracking like a China doll.

Helen W said...

... like that one. Sigh.

I've only been watching the last set (slept in late) and there have been some great rallies, no?

oddman said...

Yawnnn..... tired.

So, what's goin' on? I saw Stan at 2-0 in third, NOW it's 4-2 for Djoko... oh, Stan.

Incidentally, big congratulations to Andy and Brooklyn - today's the big day!

And unbelievably, tennis is on tv. No jerky livestream for me - yay.

oddman said...

LOL, Karen, I am a bit round myself.

Craig Hickman said...

Keep fighting, Stan. Don't give up and don't give in.

Craig Hickman said...

Now these two aren't being passive. They could play this kind of tennis on any surface.

Matthew said...

Aww, I woke up just in time to see Wawrinka fall apart at the end of it. That's a shame.

Craig Hickman said...

Ugh. Oh, well.

Can I get just one men's final this year where I can root for both players?

That's not too much to ask, is it?

Matthew said...

Well, how many of the top ten players would you root for, Craig? I know you don't root for at least two of the top four, so that hurts your chances.

Matthew said...

Okay, Nadal's opponents in his last three rounds won 5, 3, and 6 games. Will Murray do better than that?

oddman said...

(chuckle, chortle)

"Murray does have a decent h2h record against Nadal..." - British commies during the warmup, and they post the 6-2 h2h for Rafa...

oh, Jason, Robbie... fangirls.

Pamela said...

I knew Stan would cave at the end, that's why I didn't wake up for that match.

I saw Uncle Toni at the Davy - Andy M. match staking out the competition. Let's hope Rafa destroys him. Well, that's what I'm hoping. lol

oddman said...

Andy may very well win here, I'm not in the 'Rafa is unbeatable on clay' camp, just think it's funny how those fangirls are going on and on.

oddman said...

6-2 h2h - 33% of the time you win.

13-6 h2h - +40% of the time you win.

How is it that Fed has 'a dismal' h2h vs a 'decent' h2h of AndyM's, all against Rafa?

Pamela said...

Neither am I, Oddman. But - I would expect someone like Davydenko, Ferrer or Nalbandian to do it. Andy M has been quite fortunate to make it this far despite his recent success. Fognini had him by the short hairs and let him go. I'm just not sold on Andy M. as a clay-court player just yet.

Rafa has to concentrate today.

Helen W said...

Nice start (if you're a Rafa fan).

Rafa has got to be one of the best in adjusting to bad bounces and net cord balls.

Pamela said...

He misses a easy smash? Like I said, Rafa needs to concentrate. Djokovic's coach is there. Just ugh ugh ugh ugh! I can't stand him.

Come on Rafa. Wake up.

Craig Hickman said...

Matthew, I'm not actually a fan of any of the top four, but I don't mind rooting for one of them. Of the other six in the Top 10, I'd say I could root for five and half of them, depending upon my mood. ;)

Pamela said...

Craig, don't make me hurt you. You WILL be a Rafa fan. Look at that. Ha! I'm having a ball right at this moment. Murray has that "wtf did I get into" look. Love hold and the one game Murray won Rafa gave to him with sad play and easy misses.

Pamela said...

I don't normally tweet matches, but I'm having a ball today. :)

Marissa said...

Pamela, our boy is on a roll now.

Pamela said...

Indeed Marissa.

Murray looks disturbed that he had to work THAT hard to hold serve. Ah .. come on Rafa, as the game says "finish him!" lol

Helen W said...

Good to see Rafa with that "let's get down to business" look -- none of the pissyness we've seen in the last couple of tournaments.

Vamos!

oddman said...

Totally agree, Helen W... I haven't seen any of his previous MC matches this year, but have heard he was pissy-faced. he looks very business-like and well into it right now.

Vamos, Rafa! Sheesh, if you beat Murray, then you have Djokovic waiting - tough row to hoe, but I have faith in you, lovely Mallorcan boy.

Pamela said...

Craig, Serena is live tweeting if you want to talk to her. She's answering questions.

Karen said...

I note that the commentators are growing increasingly quiet - LOL - I love it. Kick his ass Rafa

Matthew said...

Things are getting interesting here at 5-3...

Matthew said...

Wow! Broken while serving for the match. Where's that part of Murray's game been all day?

Karen said...

who would have thunk it, Nadal losing serve serving for the match. Now we get to see the real Nadal - watch him break serve for the match now -

Matthew said...

Tie-break! And Murray with the momentum! Didn't see this coming...

Helen W said...

WOW. The best match at MC this year by far.

Vamos Rafa!

Craig Hickman said...

Rare when two players are in the zone at the same time. Those last games were enthralling.

Craig Hickman said...

The problem with Andy Murray, among so many, is that he can't keep up that level of play on the big stages for more than a few batches of games at a time.

Enough to win shields, but will it be enough to win Slams?

We'll see.

He'll need to improve his physical and mental fitness if he intends to become No. 1. It's more than just breaking serve, buddy.

Karen said...

Have to give Murray credit he stepped it up very good match maybe because I was not really rooting for anyone I was able to enjoy the match

Craig Hickman said...

Pamela, I'm sorry to have missed your note about Serena live twittering.

Karen said...

@Craig, so true and that is one of the main reasons why I am not sold on him winning majors but we will see

oddman said...

Good on ya, Karen. I'm surprised you even watched it, actually. I know of your 'fondness' for Murray, and you've mentioned before how you dislike Rafa's game.

Karen said...

@Oddman, LOL - I watched because I had no interest in who won. The thing with me is that I love tennis more than I like the personality. Of course I have my faves, but at the end of the day I like to watch the game. Today, I have to say that Murray forced Rafa to play aggressive tennis. I do not think I have ever seen a clay court match where you had almost 60 winners in the match and less unforced efforts on both sides. It was a really good match.
In the Dementieva match, Wozniacki is playing really good tennis.

oddman said...

@Karen -

Let me stop and pick my jaw up off the floor here. :D

the REASONS Stan Lost :

1) Djokovic is the better player

2) Djokovic got frightened of losing his 3 ranking...he was threatened by his mother that he has to sleep in the Pizza Place's oven every night

3) Djokovic may have a breathing and heat problem but only HE knows the extent for sure

and Stan has a bigger problem ..it is called a HEARTACHE problem...

vw said...

Graf, I agree with the three points you mentioned. I don't know about Stan's heartaches!
