Cincinnati Semifinals Open Thread

For some reason I thought the matches started at 3 EDT. Sorry for the confusion.

It's the final four and it's the "Big Four". Fed is already up a set. Be interesting to see if he can close it out this time.

Rafa ought to have his way with Djoke later. We'll see.

Oh yes, good win for him. That win does a lot for the confidence going into the final major of the year. Did you all hear how he bitch slapped ESPN for their tape delayed as against live coverage. If you show the match I will watch it.

Didn't see the match, but the night matches being taped delayed is irksome. ESPN will be televising the US Open for the first time in just over a week. USA network was pretty damn good in their coverage. I think most tennis fans will be watching to see if ESPN drops the ball.

Not burying the night session would be one way to build hype for the Open. They could really use the US Open series to build to the Open on their network.

I understand LL baseball is huge and there's nascar tonight on the mother channel, but still...

I dont' know what ESPN's block of time will be at the Open, but they better not screw up The Open at night. I want 7 pm coverage until the last ball is played. I think being on espn2 will stave off any fears of sportscenter cutting off coverage, but we'll see if ESPN2 can sell tennis for 2 weeks without giving up a night.

The only problem I have with ESPN2 doing the Open is the fact that if you miss matches that have been played during the day you have no chance of watching them when you get home from work. I know that most of the top players will not play during the daytime (or at least I dont think so), but it would be good if they had a really good evening show. Also, they can coop some of the other ESPN channels that seem to be blank all the time on my tv.

First set Novak. That was a comprehensive first set. The match is about to start because no way does Rafa allow Novak to beat him in a match by bread sticking him.

Such a great tournament by Roger! Nice way to get back his hard court prowess. I so love it when he plays as fluent as he did this tournament. Allez :)

Rabbit, me and you both baby, me and you both. That first set was just vintage Federer. Taking the ball early, moving his opponent around and just coming up big on the big points. Did you see his feet today? They were awesome. Sorry for Novak as the guy has grown on me a bit (particularly his eyes and smile).

what ? no finals thread ?

this win is significant - since Roger is now able to quiet those folks who are saying he won RG and SW19 without beating the other top 3.

he now snapped losing streaks to all 3: Nadal 5 in a row in Madrid, Murray (4 in a row) and Djoke (2 in a row) in Cincinatti.

that was a very satisfying match for all Fed fans!

woot!

Edma, boy I tell you all Fed fans are celebrating today. What could be better than seeing our guy hoisting a trophy on Final Sunday when everyone had basically written him off. Sweet victories indeed. Did you see how Novak had to raise his arms to the heavens just because he won a game in the first set? Sweet. As to the Murray match yesterday, all talk went out the window yesterday when Roger basically dismantled his game and showed that he did not need to serve aces at every given opportunity. He had 36% first serves yesterday and still won the match. He had Murray so stymied yesterday that the fellow actually stopped play during the tiebreak to challenge a serve. Bizarre indeed.

I think he owes Novak a dinner for that win though.
